History

JSC Plastpolymer is one of the largest science, production and design associations in the branch of research and technological development of broad assortment of plastics: fluoropolymers, styrene and vinyl acetate plastics, creation and design both pilot and production plants for their production.

Closely assotiated with the history of the company are the names of D.I. Mendeleyev, P.N. Yablochkov, I.A. Vyshnegorodsky, S.N. Ushakov, eminent figures in the history of national science and technology.

The Joint Stock Company Plastpolymer is created in 1993 on base of Okhta Order of Lenin and Order of Red Banner of Labour science and production association (ONPO) Plastpolymer, one of the first research-and-production centers in USSR formed in 1969 as leading institution in country on creation and development of an industry branch of polymerization plastics: polyolefines, fluoropolymers, styrene and vinyl acetate plastics.

This leading part is stipulated by that the association were formed on the basis of the leading chemical industry enterprises having wide experience and powerful achievements: NIIPP (Research and Development Institute of Polymerization Plastics), grounded in 1945, branch of Moscow design institute GIPROplast grounded in 1958 and Okhta Chemical Plant grounded in 1715. Each of these structures has made a valuable contribution to development of polymer industry.

So, for these years the large complex of scientifical and technological developments was made. The most significant developments are:

unique class of fluoropolymers for special engineering areas and unique fluoropolymer products for first satellites and orbital spacecrafts, interplanetary stations "Moon", "Venus", "Mars"; for the programs "East", "Soyuz" etc.; the projects "Moonmobile", "Buran", "Energia"; systems of anti-missile defense;
fluoropolymer films for cable systems;
shatterproof glass for aviation and motor-car industry on the basis of butyral resins;
impact-resistant polystyrene sheet materials;
water emulsion dyes;
high density polyethylene production process.

Special place is taken by technological developments of NIIPP for medicine: Osteoplast bone glue, devices for hemotransfusion, Vinyplene film, blood vessels from fluoropolymers etc.

The first day for Okhta Chemical Plant, included in structure of OAO Plastpolymer, was July 16, 1715, when Impeor Peter The I has decreed "to found on the rivers Bolshaya and Malaya Okhta powder mills". Since then large region of city has a title "Powder-Town".

The history of Okhta Chemical Plant is an alive annals of Russian industry development for 200 years:

With names of outstanding figures in science and engineering: Mendeleyev, Vyshnegorodsky, Fadeyev, Chikolev, Kalachev and many others is connected the creation of state powder making, technique of explosives, pyrotechnics and initiator agents; On Okhta Chemical Plant the constructor of battle missiles Alexander Zasyadko in 1817 tests the first missiles, and the general Konstantinov creates "a rocket institution". Already in russian-turkish war of 1828 were used 10 thousand battle missiles of 106 mm calibre, and Konstantinov's launchers have ensured simultaneous start of 36 missiles;
In the war threshold period there are created first domestic productions of synthetic leather, celluloid, camphor gum, bakelite, cellon, film etc.;
In severe time of Great Patriotic war and blockade Okhta Chemical Plant is reverted to production of an ammunition and creates the first missiles for Guards mortars "Katysha".

For continuous provision with ammunition OCP is awarded by Order of Red Banner of Labour and with termination of GPW the Banner of State Committee of Defense USSR is transmitted to plant for eternal keeping.

In a post-war period OCP terminates the production of ammunition making 80 % from gross production, and reduces sections of nitrocellulose, celluloid, film, groundwood, chlorine etc.

At this time the research & development and experimental works on OCP were directed to the field of synthesis of new polymers and their processing. The productions of butyral film, Vinyplast (sheets, pipes, rods), molding powder, phenol-formaldehyde resins, cellulose triacetate etc. were mastered For the first time in the country productions of low density polyethylene, ethyl cellulose and epoxide resins are created.

ONPO Plastpolymer In process of industrial applying of developments at existing and created plants has opened in different cities of the country the affiliates and departments: Novosibirsk and Grozno affiliates, Yerevan and Novopolotsk departments, Tomsk, Omsk and Shevchenko design departments which has played a significant role in erection of new production and, in point of fact, lays dawn the foundations of polymer industry in the country.

For today into the structure of JSC Plastpolymer are going into:

Research & Development Division (RDD);
Design Division (DD);
Okhta Chemical Plant (OCP).

Now we realize all scale of research and development, design, experimental and industrial applying works under the scheme "research - production" with completion of commissioning with handing over of plants "on a turn-key basis".
